Travel news and reviews

A one-bedroom ocean view apartment at Rhapsody Resort provided everything required for a comfortable five-night Gold Coast stay.

The view from Room 1804 at Rhapsody Resort Queensland.

Situated opposite the beach and around a 15-minute walk or two tram stop ride from the heart of Surfers Paradise, the resort was close enough to access the hustle and bustle of this area but far enough away to escape from the crowds.

A balcony accessed from both the bedroom and living area of the apartment was the perfect location for enjoying sunrises and sunsets while the white sandy beach proved irresistible for morning and evening walks.

What: Room 1804, a one-bedroom ocean view room at Rhapsody Resort, Gold Coast, Queensland.

Who: JB

When:  July 15 to 20, 2023.

How Did It Rate

The location. The resort is ideally located opposite the beach and a short stroll to G:link, the Gold Coast’s efficient light rail line.

The kitchen area

The views. Located on the 18th floor of the 41-floor complex, my  apartment featured floor to ceiling windows as well as the private balcony complete with a table and four chairs.

The apartment’s facilities. The open space living area included a small kitchen with all the essentials for a self-contained stay. A small table sat three while a comfortable couch in the loungeroom was the perfect location for reading, watching television and observing beach activity.  The bedroom featured a comfortable queen size bed, television and plenty of wardrobe space. The apartment also included a washing machine and dryer.

The view from the bedroom.

The resort’s facilities which include a small but well-equipped gym which offers some great views from its 27th floor location. The views are even more spectacular from the Level 41 Garden Rooftop Terrace thanks to the 360-degree views of the Gold Coast.  Swimming facilities include a 20m long 1.4-metre-deep pool, spa, steam room and sauna.

The online guest compendium which, importantly for those who want to self-cater, includes instructions on how to use all the cooking facilities.

The staff of the family owned and operated property management team were very helpful and quickly arranged the replacement of a faulty toaster.

Given only three lifts service the resort’s 41 floors which are home to both permanent residents and tourists, waiting for a lift, especially at `peak times’, can be a drawn out affair.

The rooftop garden.

Given my room was opposite the lift and next to the refuse chute I was initially worried about noise but this wasn’t an issue.  Neither was the traffic noise which could occasionally be heard at night. Construction work across the road from the Rhapsody on a major new development also didn’t impact me but may affect guests in certain rooms, something the resort does warn about.

The resort offers different levels of housekeeping packages. My package didn’t include housekeeping and it wasn’t required. Extra provisions can be purchased on top of the provided tea, coffee, sugar etc. While the amounts of the basics provided seemed reasonable, one small sachet of dishwashing powder for a five-night stay seemed a little miserly!

Rhapsody Resort is located at 3440 Surfers Paradise Boulevard Surfers Paradise.  Visit the website for more information.
