Travel news and reviews

Turtle Beach Resort on the Gold Coast proved to be a very friendly family resort.

The kids loved it. There were plenty of activities on offer at the resort which was just as well as we didn’t have a car and public transport was expensive for a family of four. The boys are very keen to return to what they now call their `holiday home’

How did it rate?

There was plenty of room in our apartment.

Staff were extremely helpful in arranging tours to the theme parks, which included transfers.

Arranging transfers from the Gold Coast airport to the resort was money well spent. Great to have someone to pick us up and drop us off especially with excited children and quite a bit of luggage!

The four separate swimming areas, including wading pools and adults only retreat. The kids especially loved the water slide and mini golf.

A fully equipped kitchen which meant we could prepare many of our own meals.

The resort is a short walk to Mermaid Beach.

The deal we purchased meant the holiday was great value for money.

A security card was needed at all times to get in and out of the resort and the entrance to our apartment. This made us feel secure and safe within the resort and our apartment.

As we didn’t have a car we were limited to where we could go as public transport was expensive. Mermaid Beach does have a collection of smaller shops – the largest supermarket was around a 45 minute walk from the resort.

Mermaid Beach is very quiet, which was fine for a family holiday but maybe not ideal for those looking for the `buzz’ the Gold Coast is renowned for.

The minimum age for the Kids Club is four, thus our three year old couldn’t attend. The hours of opening also seemed a little restrictive and weren’t compatible with our plans so our six year old also didn’t get to attend. It also seemed quite expensive.

Although it is nothing to do with the resort, the weather wasn’t great for a beach holiday in July. Next year we will look at going a little later in the year.
