A short stay at Hotel Sorrento ticked all the boxes thanks to its location and the quality of the furnishings.
My balcony overlooked Port Phillip Bay and relaxing while reading on the comfortable outdoor lounge was ideal in fine weather. The inside lounge proved equally as comfortable when storms forced me inside. The only disadvantage was a block of units opposite, which partly blocked my view.
At first I was a little concerned as my room was located above the hotel’s restaurant, but I didn’t have to worry – it was a very quiet room and my stay was extremely restful.
The hotel is the oldest commercial building in Sorrento dating back to 1871.
What: Heritage Room 2, Sorrento Hotel
Who: JB
Why: Researching stories on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula
When: December 1 and 2
How Did It Rate
My balcony. It was large and offered views over Port Phillip Bay.
The quality of the furniture. The bed was very comfortable, as were the inside and outside lounges.
The hotel’s location. It’s only a short stroll to the main street of Sorrento, the beach and the Queenscliff to Sorrento ferry.
Bathrobes in the room.
The breakfast. It’s included in the tariff and includes both hot and cold options.
The décor of the room. The colour scheme, furniture and lighting complemented the room’s limestone walls.
No Wi-Fi in the rooms. It is available in the public areas and is free.
A lack of bathroom amenities. While there’s Moulton Brown shampoo and conditioner in the shower there was no moisturiser or body wash or those other small luxuries similar properties offer.
No DVD player although television stations included several Foxtel movie channels.
