From the moment we arrived at Kalbarri’s Gecko Lodge we knew we were in for a memorable stay.

A very warm welcome from the Lodge’s owner, Sha, and a slice of fresh baked carrot cake made us instantly feel at home.

The name ‘Gecko Lodge’ is inspired from Indonesian and Asian cultures, believing that Geckos are a symbol of good luck and bring good fortune to the house in which they live.
In many ways the lodge is a cross between a traditional hotel stay and a bed and breakfast home stay.

Each of the rooms is designed to offer hotel style accommodation. A living area comprising a sitting room and a meal area, where a continental breakfast is served, and Sha’s great cakes are on offer together with tea and coffee, creates a bed and breakfast type feel.
Situated on a quiet street only minutes from the beach, the Lodge proved the perfect location to explore Kalbarri’s local attractions and those a little further afield.

How Did It Rate
My room. It was light and airy and included all that’s needed for a comfortable stay including a king-size bed, spacious private bathroom with a bath, shower and separate toilet. In-room facilities included a bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, bottled water and biscuits. Bathrobes, air conditioning and a ceiling fan ensured perfect indoor temperature control! A table and two chairs inside and outside the room offered several seating options depending on the weather. The room also featured a television while wi-fi was free.

Facilities at the lodge include an outdoor swimming pool, barbecue area and sitting room complete with port wine, chocolates, DVDs, and books.
Sha’s catering which included a very healthy and large continental breakfast and afternoon teas comprising muffins, cakes and other such delights.

The location: It’s only a short walk from the resort to downtown Kalbarri and the popular Chinaman’s Beach. It’s also easy to access the Bigurda Trail which takes in some of the most spectacular of Kalbarri’s coastal cliffs. Another of Kalbarri’s famous attractions, the Kalbarri Skywalk, situated within the Kalbarri National Park is around a 40-minute drive.

As the rooms are connected and the resort’s penthouse suite includes a large outdoor seating area noisy fellow guests could be an issue. Fortunately, this wasn’t the case during our stay.
